I end this post with a famous Jane Goodall's quote. I've been thinking a lot about her since she just died and because I met her. As you might imagine, she was a quiet, rather unassuming person.
Here's how we met. I was part of a team from my church that went to Dubai in 1999 to help one of our missionaries (who was a teacher at an international school there) with some projects. There were 13 of us - all women - and we got labeled "the church ladies" and actually had a wonderful time (worked hard but also had fun!).
The teacher we were there assisting had been in the area for a long time and had a lot of connections. A wealthy parent of one of her students invited us over for a meal and invited Jane Goodall too (I'm assuming Jane was in the area doing fundraising). We all piled into the church van to drive over to the house and all 13 of us were in the back, the teacher was driving and Jane was up front with her. Needless to say, we were all talking and when we arrived at the house Jane commented that we all "sounded like a bunch of chattering monkeys!" I always assumed she meant that as a compliment!
One final note about that trip - I was voted "most likely to be arrested" since there were all these rules of engagement (especially with men) that I struggled to remember (don't make eye contact was at the top of the list and I was overseas for the first time in my life and everything was new and exciting and I couldn't stop smiling and wanting to engage with everyone!). Thankfully, I wasn't arrested but I did drive the church van several times (I was the only one who knew how to drive stick shift) and since I didn't have an international license - that probably wasn't quite legal but, again, thankfully all ended well! Haha!

at first I thought this fun side table? plant stand? was covered with pennies but it's actually hexagon shaped pieces of mother of pearl! Measures: 14" round and stands 20" tall -

let's see if I can explain this power reclining sofa. There are two buttons on each side. The button on the left moves the HEAD REST forward and back and the button on the right reclines the chair (feet up and back down). There's also a charger. Deep chocolate brown leather and in excellent condition (lots of things are in excellent condition this week!) - priced $355

Room & Board linen closet from their Linear Collection! Beautiful walnut wood and has a "right swing" door. Retails for $1,399 and the only thing Connie and I could find wrong with it is a slightly damaged top, right corner (can you see in my photo what I mean?). Ours is priced $725.

two matching leather and chrome modern side chairs! One is priced $95 and the other $75. The cheaper chair has some damage to the leather (see photos 4 and 5)
this is a stunning harvest table that measures: 42" by 9' so a large and commanding table! The top is definitely very "loved" which I think makes it more approachable (if you know what I mean).

remember the Ashley Furniture buffet I showed you earlier and I told you to make note of it? Here's the matching table (42 1/2" by 6') with four chairs and one bench - all in good condition (some dings in the wood of the table - see sixth photo down) and priced $525. I LOVE that there are three drawers on each side of the table and all six are felt lined on the bottom!
here's another beautiful dining set! This time a table (4' by 86") with two 18" extenders that PULL OUT FROM EACH END! You pull 'em out and then lift up and the underside brackets fit into this support bracket (last photo). I needed help getting them slotted in - not sure if it was just me or a bit of a design flaw? Still - it's a gorgeous table with six chairs and it's worth the effort! Also protective glass for the table when the extender aren't out. Priced $595 for all
we have other dining sets in the store but this is the last one I'm showcasing. The tag identifies this table with one leaf and eight chairs as Bermex but I couldn't find a label anywhere (though I confess I did NOT turn all eight chairs over looking for a label - after two chairs I was done!). Gorgeous maple pedestal table (it's 54" round but has a 20" leaf in it in these photos which, obviously, makes it oval). In...excellent condition (sorry - but it is!) and priced $995 for the set
very cool mid-century modern bedroom set that includes: tall chest of drawers for $195; dresser WITH mirror for $225; full size headboard, footboard and side rails for $125; nightstand with protective glass top for $95. USED full size mattress for $195 and USED full size box spring for $60.
Some chips in the veneer of the chest of drawers but overall a really wonderful set!
