If you've been wondering about the cinder block two story bump out on the exterior right side of the front of the store as well as the plywood in "bedroom land" and the noise that often filters down from some mysterious second floor you didn't know was even a thing - I'm here to provide answers and clear up any confusion!
I've mentioned our Employment Opportunity Center before - and you've probably interacted with many of the students in the program if you've been shopping at Jubilee Furniture for any length of time. The mentors and job coaches have always had offices offsite because we didn't have room at the store for them. Well, that is all about to change!
There is indeed a second floor over "bedroom land" that is being finished out for offices for staff and space for our students to gather for coaching and learning! The cinder block bump out is for the elevator that's required for us to be ADA compliant.
We're still a solid 2+ months before the space will be ready to use - but we're excited to have the staff for this program onsite where a lot of our students are working!
If you don't want to click on the link - here's an excellent snapshot of what the EOC is all about:
The Employment Opportunity Center is a job training program designed to equip and empower young adults (18-24 years of age) to pursue employment and career goals through paid work opportunities, coaching, supportive case management and career exploration.
The Employment Opportunity Center has four components:
- Classroom training in remedial education/GED studies, employment soft skills, basic computer skills, life skills and character development.
- A paid internship, 25-30 hours per week at a social enterprises or community service site, giving students on-the-job work experience.
- A four-month, paid internship in the private sector in an industry of interest for the student.
- Placement in permanent employment at either the internship site or in a related position, or enrollment in an apprenticeship program, technical school or junior college to access higher-skilled employment and career opportunities.
We couldn't do what we do at the furniture store without our students and we love them all!
snapshots of the plywood that's blocking the unfinished elevator and the stairs leading to the second floor which will be offices and a gathering place for our students...eventually!
Now let's take a look at some of our current inventory at our Carol Stream store:
oh man - we're starting with such a cool piece! COOPER top dining table (measures: 45 1/2" wide and is 78" long) with six chairs! We're not 100% sure this set was purchased together (though was donated together) because the metal on the base of the table and the metal on the chairs have a different finish but, wee doggies - this is an amazing set! Chairs are very comfortable and you can see the cooper has a gorgeous patina (and some marks from use). Priced $745 for the set
the donor told me this table arrived with a small ding on one corner (fourth photo down) and so she was sent a new one and told to donate the damaged one! Table measures: 3' by 5' and is brand new! Priced $145. Six Ashley Furniture distressed green chair for $165 for all six! Chairs are all in great shape!
FABULOUS two piece antique cupboard! Measures: 17 1/2" deep and is 64" across
and stands 86" tall. Priced $245
we have some really incredible pieces in dining room land this week! This burled wood (walnut?) table is so amazing I don't even have words! Seriously, it's stunning! Measures: 41" by 66" and has two 21" leaves and table pads. The wood is PRISTINE! Classic, clean lines - there is
NOTHING to NOT like about this table! Priced $575
around the stunning table are these equally stunning EIGHT chairs (two with arms) that are in excellent condition and priced $225 for all eight! Golly, I wish I needed dining furniture!
there are some snags on the back corner of this wingback chair but
overall it's in good condition and priced $125
fantastic American Signature "bar" - has a hinged surface that flips out to provide more space and lots of drawers and spots to store all your drinkware! Front leg does have some puppy dog chew marks but otherwise in very good condition and priced $275
and then just a reminder that our outdoor furniture area has reopened (access the area by going to the door in the back southeast corner of the store - watch your step as you walk out).
We're selling these two folding chairs for $15 each
And that's a wrap, dear reader! Tons more inventory at our Carol Stream location and then don't forget about our Lombard store! Take care!
