Tuesday's customer inspiration - Kari's gorgeous chair links!

It's Tuesday which means it's time for my customer inspiration post where I show you something someone has purchased from the store and how amazing it looks in their home - either exactly as it looked leaving our store or how it's been made even better!

This week there's a bit of a twist.  I received an email from Kari with a couple of links to some very inspiring photos of gorgeous chairs that look an awful lot like some we have in the store.  Here's Kari's email:

Hi Susan, 

I have been to Jubilee a couple of times and LOVE it! 

I saw those black dining chairs you have for $70/ea that came in a few weeks ago... there were still 4 there last time so I thought I'd send you a couple of amazing links I found to them online. Not quite the same as a reader makeover -but inspiring nonetheless!

Tuesday's customer inspiraiton - Naomi's stunning chair makeover!

Wow - what a makeover I have for you today!  I'm so excited - obviously so much so that I failed to tell you what Tuesday customer inspiration is all about (in case you aren't familiar with it).

Every Tuesday - if my wonderful customers take the time to snap a photo or two of something they've purchased from Jubilee Furniture and email me at sgalbraith@outreachcommin.org - I show you said photo(s) with the hopes of inspiring you to see used furniture in a new and creative way.  Not every post is a complete makeover - many of the things at Jubilee Furniture are fabulous just the way they are - but wait until you see what Naomi did to a very sad chair she found at the store.

Here's her email:

Hi!  I had been looking for a cute chair for my "crafting nook" to no avail (I didn't have much to spend, that always slows me down!) - I found your blog/website and was excited to read about what you do for the community AND some of the cute makeovers your customers had done.

My husband and I have a few goodwill finds we had made over - mostly painting furniture - but I hadn't done a chair before - so stepping into the store on Saturday, we were looking for something CHEAP (so if I ruined it it would be no big loss!) - we found the perfect chair FOR $5.50!  And took it home for a makeover!

I found some clearance fabric at Wal-Mart, so total, the project was less than $45!

So attached is my picture of the makeover (I saw you were asking for inspiration posts), I hope to come visit again soon for more furniture :)

I cannot believe how someone - with what sounds like no re-upholstery skills - was able to create a multi-fabric job with contrasting trim!  Wow. So. Impressed.  The chair looks amazing!

Tuesday's customer inspiration - Judy's transformed night stand!

Gosh, here we are again with another installment of Tuesday customer inspiration where I showcase something someone has purchased from Jubilee Furniture with the hopes of inspiring you to view used furniture differently than you might have before.  Some of my Tuesday posts show furniture looking exactly as it did leaving the store and others how the piece has been transformed into something even better!

Today's post is how something lovely became even lovelier with a simple color of white paint!

Here's Judy's email:

Good morning, I have attached before and after pictures of my most recent purchase at Jubilee.  I saw this little table while shopping for a couch for my son's first apartment.  I fell in love with the shape, and didn't know what I would do with it.  I even told the kids don't let me  buy it, because I have no where to put it.  But bought it anyway and thought is would look better white.  So that's what I did.  It is now in my bedroom as a night stand and just love it!

I, too, was drawn to the shape of this piece and love what Judy did with it!  I wouldn't have thought of using it as a night stand but thinks it works really well in that function.

Tuesday's customer inspiration - Melissa's back with another fantastic make-over!

Thanks for stopping by for Tuesday customer inspiration where I show you something purchased from Jubilee Furniture and how fabulous it looks in someone's home with the hopes of inspiring you to see pass our concrete floors and bad lighting to the amazing finds available for purchase every Friday from 1 to 8 and Saturday from 9 to 4!  Whew - that was a rather long sentence!  Did you catch it all?  Hope so!

Melissa is a semi-regular customer and one of the most creative people I've ever met.  If you click on the customer inspiration tab at the top, you can scroll down and find two other times I've showcased things Melissa has purchased and transformed from the furniture store.

This time it's a sweet roll-top desk and it actually started off looking pretty good.  Nice oak - not bad at all - but definitely lacking some pizazz!

It certainly has tons of pizazz now!

Tuesday's customer inspiration - Jessica's fantastic chair make-over and Mandy's great reading corner!

Greetings and welcome to Tuesday customer inspiration where we hope to inspire you to see beyond our less than fabulous warehouse/showroom to the amazing discoveries to be found within (some of those discoveries require some lovin' before they're revealed as the gems they are and some don't!).

And then Mandy stopped in a couple of weeks ago and purchased two armless chairs for her classroom's reading corner.  I love how the two gray/blue chairs go so well with Mandy's other chair and the great striped pillows certain fun 'em up!  She wrote that her kids love the space!

Tuesday's customer inspiration - Margaret's lovely entry and living room!

Thanks for stopping in for Tuesday customer inspiration where I showcase something a customer has purchased from Jubilee Furniture and how it looks in their home - either exactly as it looked leaving the store or how it's been transformed into something even better - with the hopes it'll inspire you to give peace used furniture a chance (sometimes I crack myself up!).

So, without further ado, it's my pleasure to introduce one of my favorite customers, Margaret!  This is Margaret's third time submitting photos for customer inspiration (check out her first customer inspiration here and numero duo here)!  Here's her email:

Subject: some more pictures...

...through my embarrassingly dirty camera lens.  Or is it supernational phenomena?  Nope, just dirt.

The first picture is that two piece painted table we found at Jubilee.  Remember, when I came in the store three times and kept stealing your tape measure?  It serves as an entryway table with some knickknacks on top.  Notice the glass panel on our front door, which explains why we bought the second piece (giant curio) in the next photo.  We're pretty sure that this is someone's homemade brainchild, but since it went so well with our front door, we figured it belonged at our house.  We removed the casters that it had on the bottom, but unfortunately, this made it tip forward.  We then stuffed some balsa wood under the front to steady it, and anchored it to a wall stud with a child safety furniture strap.  Hopefully, it's not going anywhere anytime soon.  Crystalware and old books rest on the shelves inside the glass doors, while hand-me-down board games hide in the cabinet below.

The pine bench is also from Jubilee.  I like the rustic hinges and unfinished look.  It holds our mittens and baseball hats and the occasional stuffed bear or human child sits on top.  One day it might go in one of the kid's rooms and hide toys and books.  Who knows?

Just as soon as I took these two pictures, I changed things.  So, the last photo is more of the same, just a rearrangement of the furniture to make the room feel bigger.  It isolated the one armchair in the corner, but makes for more walking/playing room.  I can't decide which way is better and will probably move it back and forth every once in a while.

Tuesday's customer inspiration - Kathy's daughter's fun dorm room!

It's Tuesday which means it's time for customer inspiration where I show you something which has been purchased from Jubilee Furniture and how fabulous it looks outside of our dumpy warehouse in order to inspire you to see pass the concert floors and bad lighting to our amazing inventory!  If you have purchased something from the store you'd be willing to take a photo of and email me at sgalbraith@outreachcommin.org - that would be ducky!

Here's this week's email:

Susan!  Greetings!  I finally got a photo of my daughter's adorable dorm room.  You probably remember the piece that came from Jubilee...no, not the bunk beds...the darling dusty salmon velvet tufted love seat!  It fits perfectly in the room - size and style. :)

There are two other pieces from Jubilee in the room that cannot be seen...a side table at the end of the love seat and a "candy/mint/almond table" across from the love seat.  It all makes for a cozy and inviting space. :)

I'm hoping to get a few shots of the off campus house that my eldest lives in also.  The girls have several Jubilee pieces there!  We all love Jubilee and the wonderful things we have found there...and the lovely people that volunteer at Jubilee make it fun to come in even when we don't find "just the right thing"...not to mention...it's for a great cause! (run-on sentence, lol.  Don't show Connie!) :D

Wow - I love how a somewhat "formal" piece was transformed into something very colorful and fun simply by adding a ton of great pillows and the fabulous orange shag rug on the floor!  Super inviting and I'm guessing this is the "hang out" room on the floor!  'Course having a candy/mint/almond table might also help (as long as there are always candy, mints for almonds on said table!).

Tuesday's customer inspiration - Sherah's beautiful home!

Welcome to Tuesday customer inspiration where each week - God willing and the creek don't rise - I show you photos of furniture purchased at Jubilee Furniture and how wonderful it looks in a customer's home - either exactly as it looked leaving the store or how it's been made ever more fantastic-er - with the hopes it'll challenge you to think differently about pre-owned (hey - it works for cars!) furniture.  How I get said photos is like so: you take your digital camera - or iPhone - and take a picture or two of whatever you've bought at Jubilee Furniture and then email them to me at sgalbraith@outreachcommin.org!  It's that easy and if you do this, you will totally make my day!

Onto today's inspiration! Here's the email:

Hi Susan, My name is Sherah -- and I'm a huge, silly fan of Jubilee Furniture :)  You might remember me: I come in with my little one-year-old, Charlie, every once in awhile.  He runs around the store, munching on your cookies and trying to fit inside all of the china cabinets, and I look around at all the awesome furniture!  It's a win-win ;)  Anyways, here are a few pictures of Jubilee furniture that we've bought over the past two years - the brown chair and white couch are both in our living room and the dresser is in our bedroom.

We love Jubilee, and we're so thankful for the work you do there!  I've told my friends and family about Jubilee too - my cousin just bought a house, and she went to your store last weekend and found incredible deals on tons of furniture for her home!  It was exciting!

So, thanks again!  I'm sure you'll be seeing Charlie and me again very soon :)

Tuesday's customer inspiration - Rachel's transformed show stopping dresser!

Welcome to this week's installment of customer inspiration were we showcase something purchased from our dreary warehouse which is teeming with fabulous furniture finds and amazing people (both my volunteers and my customers!) and how wonderful it looks in someone's home (either exactly as it looked leaving the store or how it's been transformed into something even better).

Today I bring you a lovely dresser that Rachel and Ben bought a while back and though it wasn't bad - it also wasn't their style until a simple coat of paint changed everything!

Here's Rachel's email:

Hi Susan,  My husband Ben and I came into Jubilee a little while back and picked up a beautiful 9-drawer dresser.  The dresser is so big and our rooms are so small that it only fit in our living room.  Which is nice because we really did not have any furniture in there.  The dresser was in great shape, and the paint job was not terrible, just not our taste.  So after a little sanding and a few coats of white paint we have a beautiful new piece with TONS of storage!  The pictures that now hang above the dresser are of the Museum of Science and Industry building before it became the museum it is today and went through a renovation of its own.  We love this dresser and get tons of compliments.  We surely will be back at Jubilee searching for our next project soon!

Today we're heading to LaDonna's place to see how she added two simply items (sleeper sofa and a bed - head board/foot board) from Jubilee Furniture to the rest of her furnishings and created a very warm and inviting space!

Hey Susan!  I purchased my furniture from Jubilee about one month ago and I love it.  I had my housewarming just Sept. 3rd and I got great compliments on my furniture even though they had no clue how much it actually cost me.  I purchased the head and foot board you see in my bedroom picture and the lovely light tan striped sleeper sofa in my living room from Jubilee.  Thanks so much Susan and all the Jubilee Furniture workers and volunteers.  God Bless You All.

I love the white head/foot board (they both also have tan linen upholstery in the middle) with the black furniture and those red leather ottomans at the end of the bed!  The accent rug in front of the sofa is a nice punch of color too!

Tuesday's customer inspiration - Peggy's fabulous sewing room!

Welcome to Tuesday customer inspiration where I showcase something someone has purchased from Jubilee Furniture and how amazing it looks in their home - either exactly as it looked leaving the store, or, how it's been transformed into something even better!

Today's inspiration is from my sister, Peggy, who's a wonderful sewer and quilter.  Her email cracked me up since she wrote it as if I didn't know anything much about her - but it's prefect for sharing with you, dear reader!  Here it is:

Hello Susan!  I wanted to share my photos of my re-done sewing room.  As you know, I saw this bathroom cabinet at Jubilee and mentioned to my daughter that it would make a nice cutting space for my sewing room.  I enjoy making quilts and that involves a lot of rotary cutting - which I have been doing mainly on the FLOOR - on my knees, bending over the cutting mat - not very good for my back.  There was a very large stone slab on top of the cabinet.  While it did not fit exactly and was less than lovely, the weight and added height to the cabinet was a plus.  Jessica said she would buy me it for my birthday - for the bargain price of $35.  I was in Menard's and saw a very similar cabinet for $199.  Anyway - I absolutely love the higher height for cutting my fabric.  My 24 x 36 inch cutting mat is just a tad larger than the top but is working out well.  I love having items handy in the drawers close by - I went through my whole room organizing and throwing out stuff - it was a long process, but I'm including views of my whole sewing space - a space I love spending time in!  I will be looking at Jubilee for a small chair to add to my room - and who knows what other treasures I will find?  Thanks to Jessica for my great birthday present - and to my husband for getting it up the stairs!  See you soon - Love, Peggy

A couple of weeks later:

Jim now has a place to sit when he stops by my sewing room!  This chair was purchased at Jubilee - in pristine condition - all I did was add a "quilt-y" touch - and, for now, I think my room is complete!  Thank you, Jubilee Furniture!

Wow - I love Peggy's sewing room!  It's bright and cheerful and inviting and I can see why she enjoys spending time in it!  How she got all of Mom's sewing talent - I don't understand and it doesn't seem entirely fair!

Oh well, I got Mom's ...wide hips for ease in child birth?  Sorry - super bad mental image - it's just my daughter, Abby, turns 23 tomorrow and I've been thinking a lot about the day she was born!

Tuesday's customer inspiration - Monique and Tim's wonderful family room!

Before we jump into today's customer inspiration - and though I had a bet with my husband that Meg would win last night's HGTV Design Star - I have to admit I liked Karl better and thought maybe he'd pull a rabbit out of the hat at the end and win! He was so engaging and I liked his edgier design style. I've never watched the show before - and actually only started watching about six weeks ago (so missed the first half of the season) - and found the elimination process so tense and nerve-racking that I don't know if I can watch again! Yet I was so excited about last night's final episode that I turned my TV on 15 minutes early (you know - to warm it up! :-).

I was so emotionally drained when Design Star ended that I sat like a bump on a log and watched Showhouse Showdown and though didn't love Shazalynn Cavin-Winfrey's over-the-top design style, disliked Eric Kole's superior attitude (and minimalist approach) so much that I was rooting for Shazalynn (who did win, in case you're wondering). Whew - what a night!

Thankfully, there's much less drama at the o' Jubilee Furniture blog - though equally creative and fun!

Subject: Two crummy photos...

are all I got, but they're yours.

This is our family room. The mirror, side-table, wall ornamentation, and low coffee table are from my favorite place on earth: Jubilee. I just had to respond immediately after reading today's post.

p.s. In case you're wondering what that white glob is in the fireplace, that's my old medical student coat!

Did you catch that Jubilee Furniture is one of Monique's FAVORITE PLACES ON EARTH! Wow - how nice is that!?

I love the horizontal stripes on the wall and, personally, I think everyone should have a human torso on their coffee table (along side your child's toys!).

Monique and husband, Tim, love all things retro and vintage with clean lines and great surfaces and aren't afraid to try new things! Well done!

Tuesday's customer inspiration - today starring Valerie and Margaret

Each Tuesday I post photos of something a customer has purchased from Jubilee Furniture with the thought that seeing things outside of our dreary warehouse might inspire you to: 1.) stop in the store either Friday from 1 to 8 or Saturday from 9 to 4 because you're impressed with what can be purchased there; 2.) try your hand at transforming something that's been bought at the store from okay to fabulous; 3.) realize that repurposing and recycling furniture from Jubilee is not only good for the environment but can look stylish and hip in your home too; and 4.) remember you've been meaning to take photos and email me at sgalbraith@outreachcommin.org and you now feel guilty - again! Just kidding (sorta).

I love Val's email so much I have to share the whole thing with you.

Hi Susan - Love the blog at Jubilee. I read it religiously. Attached please find a picture of a chair that I got at your warehouse. I think it's ugly mustard color makes it charming. It's also really uncomfortable. Although it's true beauty is not apparent in the photo. It opens up into a soft cushy low-to-the-floor bed! I can host all three of my nieces to sleepover spa nights now that they have outgrown the queen sleeper sofa. It had gotten to the point that I would find one of them curled u on a chair or on the floor. Like I said, it's not very pretty but I wouldn't trade it for anything. Yes, that is a blue leather watering can purse in the background. Doesn't everyone have one? Just shoot me if I walk into your storing using it as a purse; I will have lost my mind.

I actually think the chair looks great and I love the pretty throw pillow! Add in Val's wonderful sense of humor and I'm wondering how I can get invited to the next sleepover/spa night!

Next up are some photos from Margaret - a regular Jubilee Furniture customer and a previous customer inspiration!

Here's Margaret's email:

Hi Susan, Back when we bought the patio set, we also picked up this matching set of oak Broyhill tables. We didn't really do much to them, just changed out the hardware. You might remember that the hardware was the hanging kind; we changed it to the cup kind because it looks a little more sleek and is also harder for a toddler to pull down (I figured that one out later). They're great storage for coloring books, board games, and (mommy's) Wii Fit Board. The couch has recliners on each end, so it helps to have a coffee table on hidden wheels (nifty little extra) that pushes out easily every time you recline.

I'm also adding the picture of the pine hutch because I don't know when I'm going to get around to updating the curtains in the room (but who cares about the curtains for now?). The hutch looks nice as is and our previously empty front/dining room is now just about done. Again, all we did is change the hardware from white to brass knobs.

Wow - with minimum effort Margaret made the lovely pieces works well for her and her family!

So great to see you, dear reader, back for our customer inspiration post where I show you something a customer has purchased and how amazing it looks in their home - either exactly as it looked when it left Jubilee Furniture - or how it's been transformed into something even better!

Hi Susan, Here are the long awaited pictures of the craft armoire! It started out as an old entertainment unit, but I saw potential for something else!

The furniture is in excellent condition - the wood is beautiful and the piece is quality made. After a quick wash and polish, the wood was sparking!

My dad majorly helped me - he took out the old back and added pegboard. Then he built pull out drawers for extra craft supplies and a pull out piece of wood as a desk. I bought some pegboard organizers and baskets and moved in all my supplies!

It's been so nice to have - I can stop mid-project and not have a major mess to clean. And I don't have to keep my supplies in plastic tubs in the closet!

There was only one more think I needed to get - the perfect chair. The desk is too high for a dining room chair and most bar stools were too tall. I found this awesome tall chair at Jubilee last week and it's a perfect fit! It's the perfect height for the craft armoire. It's made of nice wood and heavy cast iron - it even swivels and has a foot rest! I had big plans to make the chair over, but the wood is almost a perfect match to the craft armoire and the white goes nicely with our room color. It's a perfect fit!

Wow - Joy it's wonderful! You can often find very expensive entertainment centers for fairly cheap (compared to the original purchase price) and do some amazing things - like Joy and her dad did - to repurpose them! We have one in the store which Jubilee Furniture Warehouse Manager, Dan Snyder, repurposed with adjustable shelves and turned into a mega storage piece for...whatever you need stored!
